Rent by rooms in tourist apartments

COMMUNICATION
Galician Association of Rural Tourism
A few days ago, this rural tourism association AGATUR became aware of the recent ruling by the Supreme Court annulling the rule by which the Xunta de Galicia prevented renting rooms in tourist flats.

As well, The first thing we want to make clear is that we do not question this ruling at all., nor that reality is marked by a growing and disproportionate number of this type of vacation rentals in tourist flats and that therefore our associates have to adapt to a new reality.

Having said that, and since we do not know what the Xunta de Galicia is going to do to adapt the aforementioned sentence, we want to make it very clear that every day the competition is more and more fierce, gradually leading to the closure of many of our associates, since the number of reservations is increasingly diverted to the rental of tourist flats that can compete with much cheaper prices.

This circumstance occurs solely and exclusively because the requirements, procedures or conditions are not at all the same in the cases of rural tourism compared to tourist flats. Is the same required by Social Security?, by tourist inspection, for the health etc., to a rural house than to a tourist flat?, Well, no, because all this means that in order to make our businesses profitable we have to have more expensive prices since the fixed costs are much higher, while the requirements for tourist flats are much lower.

In short, what we ask is that you take into account that we should all play with the same cards, that we can all open the door every day under equal conditions and therefore rural tourism is not condemned to a closure for making it impossible for our businesses to be profitable.

With all this, we do not ask that new conditions be demanded from tourist flats, what we ask is that we have the same conditions without further ado., but the only path that will remain for us will be that the existing rural tourism houses become tourist flats, sad end would be for everything that has been done by Rural Tourism in Galicia.

On the other hand, we must continue working in collaboration with the administrations to eliminate the intrusiveness of illegal establishments that operate without contributing to legal obligations., which has serious consequences when competing in unequal opportunities.
